Tips for New Teachers

Things that I wish someone would have told me before I started.....

1.  Pinterest is your friend.  There are amazing ideas on there.
2.  Embrace technology.  You can find great resources by getting  plugged into Twitter.
3.  Breathe, there are days when you won't get it all done.  Take it one day at a time.
4.  Document, document, document.  Keep track of what your successful lessons are so you can keep them for the future.
5.  Keep a file with original copies of everything you use, be organized.
6.  Don't spend a ton of money on building your classroom.  Ask teachers for things they don't use anymore, look for discounts everywhere and borrow things that you don't have the money to buy yet.
7.  Find mentors.  Find people that you trust and you can ask for help.  Don't be afraid to ask for lots of help.
8. It's okay to take breaks with your kids and have some fun.  Take time to ask them how their lives are going.  Have circle time with them and show them that you care about them outside of school.
9. Set realistic goals for yourself and take baby steps to achieve them.  Maybe your first year your goal is just to survive.  That is just fine.
10. Evaluate your lessons.  What can you do to make it better the next time.  How can you keep the kids engaged.
